Beach volleyball legend Gene Selznick dies in LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Beach volleyball legend Gene Selznick has died in Southern California at age 82.

Dane Selznick says his father died Sunday at Kindred Hospital in Los Angeles after a series of health issues culminating in pneumonia.

Gene Selznick began his pioneering career on the sand as the beach game began to organize in Southern California in the years after World War II.

He also played indoor volleyball, played on the U.S. men's team and went on to coach U.S. teams.
