Summer Immigration Law Clerk ? Community Legal Services in East ...

Posted on 16. Feb, 2012 by HIP in Jobs/Fellowships/Internships

We are looking for law students with direct legal services experience who are interested in working in our immigration practice. Law clerks support our immigration attorneys lawyers as they interview clients, gather facts of a case and prepare materials for immigration applications and deportation defense. Clerks help conduct or support interviews, document case status, review cases, and help maintain files. Clerks may also be asked to assist in community presentations. Because most of our immigrant clients are monolingual Spanish-speaking, we ask that our law clerks be fluent in spoken Spanish, and ideally in written Spanish too.

Because CLSEPA is a small organization with a dozen full-time staff members, our internships vary depending on our immediate needs and current projects. We screen candidates carefully for fit with our organization, and will give preference to candidates who have immigration law experience, are fluent in Spanish, and express a sincere desire to work with a lower-income, underserved client population.

About CLSEPA:

In an effort to teach local immigrants their rights and responsibilities, we give presentations at a number of venues in the area, including community health and social service agencies, immigrants? rights groups, churches, schools, women?s shelters, and community events.
